Hugh de St. Amand Hugh de St. Amand joined the first Crusaders. He was of Norman extraction. Almain de St. Amand was summoned to Palestine as a Baron, (temp. Edward the Second,) which dignity became extinct in 1403. Hugh's brother, Gerard, died shortly after. Galilee was granted to Gervase de Bazoches, a knight from Northern France. |
Hugh de St. Amand Little is known about Hugh's early life. William of Tyre called him "Hugo de Sancto Aldemaro", suggesting he descended from this powerful family. He was the lord of nearby Fauquembergues. Hugh was very close with Baldwin I, the First King of Jerusalem, who made him Prince of Galilee and Lord of Tiberius in 1101 CE. |
